Rapid development of human society has led to a great number of new realities appearance. Thus, it is necessary to study neologisms, as these linguistic units are quickly transferred from passive to active vocabulary. Nowadays English endures neological boom. New words are appearing both in English and American languages.
The article discusses the results of experimental work aimed at determining the volume and qualitative uniqueness of the vocabulary of attributes in children aged 6–7 years with a diagnosis of mental development delay. The diagnostic program included three areas: examination of qualitative, relative and possessive adjectives, as well as testing the ability to select synonyms and antonyms. The obtained data indicate a significant lag in the development of the active vocabulary of attributes: no child reached a high level, more than half of the subjects showed average and low indicators. Persistent difficulties in word formation, poverty of semantic connections and a gap between word comprehension and their use in spontaneous speech were revealed. Based on the analysis, directions for speech therapy support are formulated, taking into account the specifics of the defect in MDD.
