The article is devoted to the analysis of the legal mechanism of compensation for damage to the environment, in particular forests, in the context of Russian legislation. It evaluates the regulatory framework, judicial practice and problems related to the effectiveness of compensation for damage caused by violations of forest legislation. It is concluded that there is a need for further improvement of legislation and unification of approaches to determining the objects and the amount of harm.
