This article examines the structure and functions of the National Innovation System of Japan. The study analyzes the key factors that ensure the sustainability of the national economy and contribute to the dynamic development of the Japanese technological ecosystem. Among the key factors, the role of government policy in creating a favorable environment for generating innovations and developing innovation potential is noted. A distinctive feature is the openness of the Japanese NIS to changes in the external environment, but at the same time, its focus on the national characteristics of the country.
