In the view of some historians, urban chronicling in Siberia was conducted along with the "stolny" Tobolsk in Tomsk, which also became (but much later, in 1629) a discharge center. The basis for this conclusion is the presence of a notebook in the Book of the late 1680s. – the earliest among the surviving editions of the Siberian Chronicle – two dozen more or less detailed reports about Tomsk, in particular, about its origin, the formation of the Tomsk category, the change of governors, the deaths of some of them, investigations about the "city holders", the rebellion of the middle of the XVII century, the participation of the Tomites in the construction of the Kuznetsk prison and campaigns in the "The Kyrgyz land." Many of these reports, for example, about the construction of Tomsk, the "delivery" of the Melessky prison after the establishment of the Tomsk discharge, the uprising of 1648-1649, contradict the evidence of other sources, mainly documentary, which makes the conclusion about the Tomsk origin of the relevant testimony of anonymous chroniclers questionable. These testimonies, as can be seen, in particular, from the note on the construction of the Kuznetsk prison, should be attributed to the replies of Tomsk administrators deposited in the archive of the Tobolsk writ chamber, and to the documents that appeared there about the investigations concerning the Tomsk voivodes of Prince N. I. Egupov-Cherkassky and N. A. Velyaminov. It is therefore premature to consider Tomsk as one of the centers of the Siberian urban chronicle of the XVII century, as D. Ya. Rezun was convinced.
The preliminary results of the rescue work carried out by Tobolsk archaeologists on the territory of the Nizhny Posad of the city of Tobolsk in 2024 are presented. In the course of research on the area of the Voskresensky excavation, various structures of residential and economic purpose were identified, as well as a representative collection of mass and individual finds was collected. The dating of all discovered artifacts based on numismatic material was determined within the framework of the late XVII – mid-XX centuries. It is noted that the peculiarity of the studied area of the city is the presence of a moist cultural layer that preserves unique artifacts made of organic materials.
The numerical composition of the military garrison of Tobolsk in the XVII century is considered. Special attention is paid to the number and functions of the Tobolsk serving Tatars.
