The article is aimed at showing J. R. Kipling as a master of mystical storytelling, and touches upon some biographical events that served as a basis for his mystical story ''They'' (1904). The text interpretation of the story presented in the article demonstrates how the author handles his inner conflict through a fictional narrative, forcing the protagonist to go through so-called ‘’stages of grief and loss’’ (the Kubler-Ross model).
