At the present stage of social development, one of the main causes of the numerous violations of human rights and freedoms is a crime. Along with the increasing incidence of terrorism, political extremism and manifestations of organized crime, each year there are cases having signs of seriality.

This article examines the challenging aspects of investigating serial sexual murders in contemporary Russian law enforcement practice. It examines the legal classification of these crimes, the difficulties in identifying seriality, and the specific aspects of evidentiary proceedings. The authors identify key organizational and methodological shortcomings that hinder effective investigations, including the lack of regulatory criteria for seriality, insufficient coordination between agencies, and limited preliminary investigation timelines. Particular attention is paid to modern forensic capabilities, including genomic registration, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and complex forensic examinations.
